recreational ice skating

If you’ve ever participated in a national ISI competition, you have probably seen the ISI Skater’s Creed in the program book. Have you taken the time to read it, and think about it? Please share a specific example of any part of the Creed that you have witnessed or been a part of at an ISI event. Send your comments to editor@skateisi.org, and include a photo if you’d like!

I will try to do my own personal best.

I will support and encourage my fellow teammates.
I will make three new friends at this competition from ice rinks other than my own.

I will be a good representative from my home rink team.

I will skate at my own true level of ability.

I will be modest in victory.
I will be gracious in defeat.
I will not focus on winning but on my participation in and enjoyment of ice skating.

  1. Dear ISI, As a former ISIA Executive Director from 1980-1995 I, Justine Townsend Smith, created the ISI Skater’s Creed and would be most grateful for recognition as author of this Creed. Might you place my name in small italic letters below the creed? Thank you very much. Sincerely, Justine

  2. Justine, you have captured the essence of what competition and sportsmanship should be. Nicely done. Wouldn’t it be great if if the Skater’s Creed were posted in every arena! Thanks for your many contributions to ISI.
