The Skating Club of Greater Youngstown took home the Robert Unger trophy as overall team champion of the 2017 ISI Winter Classic,  Feb. 10-12 at Miami University’s Goggin Ice Center in Oxford, Ohio. Ice Chalet – Knoxville took second place.

Other team trophy winners included: Ice & Blades Figure Skating Team, Percentage trophy; Edge Ice Arena, Board of Directors trophy; and Joliet Park District, President’s Award trophy.

Nearly 600 skaters from 12 states competed in a total of more than 2,506 individual and team performances. Tampa Bay Skating Academy Countryside and Dr Pepper StarCenter McKinney at Craig Ranch traveled over 950 miles to participate in the 32nd annual event.

The oldest skater was Sandie Baker, 73, of Goggin Ice Center, and David Miller of Kettering Adult FSC. Youngest skaters included Chloe Capouellez, 2, of The Skating Club of Johnstown and Colton Jarrett, 3, of Ice Chalet – Knoxville.

Special thanks and appreciation go to the staff at Goggin Ice Center who helped make this event a success, including Senior Director Kevin Ackley, Assistant Director of Skating Jeannie Clay and Ice Skating Coordinator Cassandra MacDonald. We also are grateful for all of the competition volunteers! Great job everyone!
